Grade 8 Entrance/Scholarship

  • The Entrance / Scholarship Examination consists of 2 papers.  A Languages paper (English and Afrikaans or Zulu ) and Mathematics.
  • The Examinations are skills-based rather than designed for testing content. They predominately take into consideration the work covered in Grade 6.
  • A limited number of Scholarships are awarded on the basis of Academic, Cultural or Sporting achievement.    
                                          
    Epworth awards:

    A major scholarship

    A number of minor scholarshipsAll children writing the entrance examination are automatically eligible for the academic scholarship.  For cultural and Sports Scholarships, a selection process is followed, which is outlined further on.        

These scholarships are tenable for 5 years provided academic, sporting or
cultural standards are maintained.

IMPORTANT:
Academic Scholarships are based on the Entrance/Scholarship Examination results.

Cultural scholarships require a completed scholarship form (see attached) and an audition.

Music auditions are held after the entrance examinations on the Friday.

Dance auditions are held on the Thursday afternoon prior to the entrance examinations.

Sports scholarships require a completed scholarship form (see attached) and eligible candidates will be invited for an interview.  Parents will be contacted in order to set up appointment times.

  • Applicants are required to write the examinations in their school uniforms. They may arrive on the Thursday in comfortable and warm (if necessary) casual clothing.
  • Please bring pens, pencils and ruler.
  • All boarder applicants are invited to spend Thursday night in the boarding establishment. A  programme of events has been planned to give the applicants a chance to experience the ethos of Epworth.

For the sleep-over, please bring a sleeping bag/duvet, pillow, toiletries, pyjamas, warm clothes and school uniform.

  • Cell phones are not encouraged and will be collected at bed time ( to ensure a good nights sleep) and returned to applicants before breakfast.

CHECKLIST

For the applicant to be able to write the Entrance / Scholarship Examinations, Epworth must be in possession of the following:

  • Completed application for admission form.
  • Copy of birth certificate or ID document.
  • Registration fee of R600.
  • Completed Cultural or Sports scholarship form, if your daughter fulfils the criteria.
  • Photocopy of the most recent school report  – ie. end of Grade 6.
