2013 Entrance Scholarship Examinations
(For entry into Grade 8 – 2014)

 

THERE WILL BE A FUN AFTERNOON FOR ALL GR 8 APPLICANTS AND A SLEEPOVER FOR BOARDER APPLICANTS:
Thursday 9th May 2013 @ 3:30pm

THE EXAMINATIONS FOR ENTRANCE IN 2014 WILL TAKE PLACE AT EPWORTH ON:
Friday 10th May 2013, 7:30am – 11:15am

CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS FOR ENTRY INTO GRADE 8 - 2014:
Wednesday 20th March 2013

INFORMATION REGARDING THE GRADE 8 ENTRANCE EXAMINATIONS:

The Grade 8 Entrance Examinations consists of 3 papers:-

English
Afrikaans or Zulu
Mathematics.

The Examinations are skilled-based rather than designed for testing content.  They predominantly take into consideration the work covered in Grade 6.

A limited number of Academic, Cultural and Sporting Scholarships are awarded.
Epworth awards:

•    A major scholarship
•    A number of minor scholarships.

These scholarships are tenable for 5 years provided academic, sporting or cultural standards are maintained.

Academic Scholarships:

All children writing the Entrance Examination are automatically eligible for the academic scholarships and the scholarships are awarded on the results of this Examination.

Cultural Scholarships:

These scholarships require a completed Cultural Scholarship form (see attached) and an audition.
Music:  Parents will be contacted to set up an audition date and time.
Dance: The group dance audition will be held on Friday 10th May @ 11:30 – 12:00 in the Gym Hall.

CULTURAL SCHOLARSHIP FORM

Sports Scholarships:

These scholarships require a completed Sports Scholarship form (see attached) and an interview with the Head of Sport. Parents will be contacted to set up interview dates and times.

SPORTS SCHOLARSHIP FORM

PROGRAMME FOR THURSDAY 9th MAY AND FRIDAY 10th MAY 2013

THURSDAY 9 MAY (Dress: Civvies)

 15:30 – 16:00   Arrival and registration in the Haley Hall. Tea will be served

 16:00                  Mentors welcome the girls and take them for a fun afternoon of activities followed by supper.

                               Address to parents by the Principal, Mrs Liz Klug.

 18:30                  Day Scholar applicants to be collected from the Haley Hall.

                              Boarder applicants will be taken to the hostel.

 FRIDAY 10 MAY (Dress: School Uniform)

 Applicants:

07:30               Boarder and Day Scholar applicants to meet at the Chapel.

08:00               Proceed to the examination venue

08:15                Language papers

09:45               Refreshments

10:00               Mathematics paper

11:15                Parents collect applicants from outside the Multi-Purpose Centre

11:30               Sport and Cultural Scholarship auditions

Parents:

09:15               Parents who would like a tour of the school, meet at the Chapel for tea, followed by a tour.

PLEASE NOTE:

All applicants must bring pens, pencils, ruler and eraser for the examination.
