Entrance / Scholarship Exam

The Grade 8 Entrance Examination consists of three papers:

  • English
  • Afrikaans or Zulu
  • Mathematics

The Examinations are skills rather than content based and predominantly take into consideration the work covered in Grade 6.

A limited number of Academic, Cultural and Sporting Scholarships are awarded.
Epworth awards:

  • A major scholarship
  • A number of minor scholarships.

These scholarships are tenable for five years provided academic, sporting or cultural standards are maintained.

Academic Scholarships:
All children writing the Entrance Examination are automatically eligible for the academic scholarships which are awarded on the results of this examination.

Cultural Scholarships (Music & Dance):
These scholarships require a completed Cultural Scholarship form and an audition. Music also requires a written paper which will be administered immediately after the Entrance Exam.
Music: Parents will be contacted to set up an audition date and time.
Dance: The candidates will have a group dance audition on Friday 8 May at 11:45 in the Gym Hall

Sports Scholarships:
These scholarships require a completed Sports Scholarship form and an interview (if applicants meet the criteria).
Parents will be contacted to set up an interview date and time.
