Epworth celebrated its 120th birthday on Friday, August 3, to the day. The celebrations involved all pupils and staff from Grades RRR to 12, and paid tribute to the two pioneering women who founded the school in 1898 with an enrolment of 45 pupils. The celebrations centred on its motto, Fida Humana Fortis (Faith, Compassion Courage) and included a whole school blessing by the school chaplain, 120 minutes of outreach for Rise Against Hunger, a lecture on courage, and a birthday concert by local musicians. The day culminated in Bands to the Max, a music concert featuring a variety of bands and music styles, including marimba, jazz and orchestral, from Epworth, Hilton College, Michaelhouse, Maritzburg College, St Anne’s, St John’s DSG and St Charles College.
