The Epworth Prep School Senior Choir and the High School Cantabile Choir joined over 300 choirs from more than 60 countries at the 10th edition of the World Choir Games, which were hosted by South Africa in Tshwane.
Epworth was one of only two schools in South Africa that entered both a prep and high school choir in the competition.
Both choirs excelled in their performances. The Prep Senior Choir participated in two categories, “Sacred Music with Accompaniment” and “Children’s Choir” and achieved two silver diplomas. The Cantabile Choir also received silver diplomas for the three categories in which it participated: “Sacred Music – Unaccompanied”, “Contemporary Music” and “Folklore with accompaniment”.
It was an amazing experience for all involved, meeting new people, hearing new music from all around the world, singing in some beautiful venues, developing teamwork and experiencing enormous growth, both artistically and personally. The opening and closing ceremonies were amongst the many highlights mentioned by our pupils.
South Africa topped the medal count with 76 medals, followed by China with 25, Russia with 17 and the US with 15. It was the first time the World Choir Games have taken place in Africa.
