An inspiring and uplifting concert, Songs of the Rose, featured the Epworth High School Choir and Cantabile Choir with a number of Epworth instrumentalists, performing alongside Christopher Duigan, various Epworth staff and professional players. At the heart of the programme was a sacred cantata entitled Mother of God by Stephen Carletti. This eight-piece movement, which tells the story of Christ’s life from the perspective of Mary, was specially commissioned by Epworth. This is the third Epworth commission in two years. The evening’s programme included other works by Simon Bester, Christopher Duigan, Grant McLachlan and David Orr. The concert concluded with the popular song, The Rose, which was originally performed by Bette Midler.
