EOL:
Epworth out Loud is our 16 page school newspaper which is produced eight times per year. All content is written by the girls, and they are also responsible for the layout and design. A smaller group of girls are elected as members of the Executive Committee which is responsible for planning and development.
Debating:
Debating is a popular activity at Epworth, and girls are able to participate at Grade 8, Junior and Senior levels in the Pietermaritzburg Leagues. Girls learn important skills such as logical argument, analysis, synthesis and public speaking techniques, and many girls have gone on to Inter-League and Provincial competitions
Earth-Active:
Earth-Active is a club that caters for a group of girls who are interested in looking after our environment. We tackle projects such as recycling, planting trees, animal care, making the school aware of environmental issues and participating in environmental quizzes and competitions. We also support the Eco-schools initiative which aims to bring environmental awareness into the school curriculum. We have been awarded our International Eco-schools flag for producing a portfolio of evidence of our environmental activities both in and out of the classroom for the past five years.
Public Speaking Club:
Epworth’s Public Speaking Club consists of a group of girls who meet on a weekly basis to practise the art of public speaking. Weekly activities include prepared speeches, impromptu orals, poetry readings and word games. Informal evenings with other schools are also arranged and in the first term we visited Hilton for an evening of prepared and impromptu speeches. Our girls participate in a local public speaking competition and gained invaluable experience. Anyone who would like to hone their speaking skills, and have fun in the process, is welcome to join the club.
