Cultural life
The arts are celebrated, valued and developed at Epworth. Artistic activity on all levels feeds into the daily curriculum. Art, music and drama are incorporated into lessons wherever possible.
Each pupil from Grade RRR – Grade R will take part in either a concert or Nativity play every year.
At the Pre-Primary we are involved in dance, drama, expressive and functional movement, as well as creating, interpreting and presenting the visual arts.
In the Primary grades, dedicated music and drama teachers give the pupils regular specialised lessons. our choirs are highly regarded and appreciated within the school. Our choirs’ regular performances at assemblies and chapel services are an integral part of the school’s life. They perform regularly at inter-school choir festivals in the city. At Epworth, all the Grade 2 pupils learn to play the Recorder and the Grade 3 pupils learn the Violin. A wide range of individual instrumental music lessons is offered at Epworth.
Apart from regular presentations in school assemblies, drama takes centre stage when a whole school prodcution takes place. As always, particpation by all pupils is of great importance.
The annual whole school Spring Arts Festival showcases the cultrual life of the school. This includes an art exhibition in which every pupil’s work is represented. Thus includes an art exhibition in which every pupil’s wrok is represented. Thus, the pregression of skills from Grade RRr to Grade 12 is demonstrated.
At Epworth we know that the creative arts are an essential part of life.
“Art is the outward expression of an inner life.” Edward Hooper
