Principal

Both Epworth Pre-Primary and Primary have long, highly successful histories serving children within carefully researched, progressive, up-to-date and relevant curricula that are appropriate to their age, stageof development and individual strengths and needs. The resultant wide-ranging, exciting, rich and valuable learning experiences on offer are highly acclaimed by the Epworth broader communities.

Epworth Pre-Primary and Primary were combined as a single school in July 2007. The clearly-stated intention was that the two entities, while providing for alogical and desirable Epworth continuity, maintain their individual, rich uniqueness. Epworth Pre-Primary’s ethos and appropriate environmental features and routines are, for instance, respected and celebrated and will not be detracted from, but rather enhanced. Opportunities, however, for developing and promoting continuity and progression through the school (Grade RRR to Grade 7) have been facilitated, to an increased degree, by the opportunity for the two educational spheres to operate as a single school.

Debbie Burt, Head of Department (Pre-Primary), Julie Brown, Head of Department (Foundation Phase) and Shannon Potgieter, Senior Head of Department (Primary), form a very capable and enthusiastic management team in the achievement of the above.

Our highly professional and committed teachers demonstrate both passion and outstanding expertise in the interest of the happiness, education and general well-being of the children in their care.

Life after Epworth Primary School

Epworth boys continue to feature well at schools like Hilton College, Carter High, Grace College, St. Charles, Maritzburg College and Kearsney College. The continuum into all these schools from Grade 7 is nurtured and fostered by our staff and those at the High Schools concerned. This positive relationship has been carefully developed and maintained in the interest of our boys with many of them going on to pivotal leadership roles in their chosen high school.

Our girls are able to continue at Epworth High School which is for girls only. It is always rewarding to be informed by various High Schools, including Epworth, how well our Grade 7 girls fare socially, academically and extra murally. These include reference to academic, cultural and sport accolades and awards.
