Epworth School hosted the third event in the 2019 aQuellé Mudman series on 3 March at Msinsi resort, Albert Falls Dam.
This popular, multi-sport event provided the perfect day out for the entire family, catering for all ages and abilities.
Undeterred by having to eliminate all water activities from the event, due to recent sightings of crocodiles in the dam, the Epworth organisers devised a challenging, run-cycle-run format.
Cool, cloudy conditions greeted participants who showed up for either the full-distance race: 5 km trail run, 20 km bike ride, 3 km trail run; the half-distance event: 2.5 km trail run, 10 km bike ride, 3 km trail run; or the Volvo Mudskipper Adventure for children under 11 years’ old.
The Mudskipper event, which comprised four age categories, provided youngsters with the ideal introduction to the world of multi-sport. An Irritech water-spray system, set up along the running course, proved a major highlight for the young, wannabe athletes.
The winners of the various events and age categories were presented with generous prizes from Colleen Glaeser of Karkloof Safari Villas and Spa.
Epworth is indebted to all its sponsors, without whom the event would not be possible.
Ten percent of the Epworth Mudman proceeds will be donated to CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation.
